Hellgrammites — the aquatic larvae of dobsonflies — live under rocks in fast, well-oxygenated creeks and rivers for one to three years before emerging as adults, and during that time they're one of the most consistent forage items available to smallmouth bass, rock bass, and stream trout. Few soft plastics are built to match that specific profile, which leaves a gap for anglers fishing rocky, current-driven water where hellgrammites make up a real share of the diet. The Rebel LIVEflex Hellgrammite is molded from Rebel's proprietary LIVEflex elastomer, an ultra-flexible material engineered to resist tearing through repeated strikes and panfish nips, and infused with a strong, natural scent and flavor attractant to encourage fish to hold on longer once they bite. LIVEflex material is also buoyant, so the bait floats and stands up naturally rather than lying flat and lifeless on bottom.
Defensive posture and KEG Head compatibility
Real hellgrammites flare their legs and pincers into a defensive posture the instant they're disturbed — a reaction gamefish are conditioned to key on. The Rebel LIVEflex Hellgrammite's segmented body and paired leg and pincer appendages are molded to hold that same lifelike posture at rest, on the fall, and in current. It's built to pair with the Rebel KEG Head Jig, whose rounded, barrel-shaped profile rolls over rock and wood instead of wedging into it, keeping the bait fishing through the rocky bottoms where hellgrammites actually live.
The Rebel LIVEflex Hellgrammite ships in four color patterns, each suited to a different water clarity or light condition. Carrying two or three in a creek or river rotation covers most conditions an angler will face in a single day on the water.

The Rebel LIVEflex Hellgrammite is designed to pair with the Rebel KEG Head Jig, whose rounded profile rolls over rock and wood instead of hanging up — a natural match for the rocky, current-swept bottoms hellgrammites live on. It also fishes well:
- Ned rig — weightless or on a small mushroom-style head, for a slow, subtle fall in front of bottom-hugging fish.
- Drop shot — suspended just off bottom for fish holding in deeper pools or along current breaks.
- Split shot or light Carolina-style rig — added weight to reach faster current and deeper pools without giving up the bait's natural buoyant posture.
- Weightless, twitched — worked along the surface film or just under it in slow, skinny water and shallow flats.
